Meet the Experts Who Are Part of Your Urology Care Team

The urology professionals at Michigan Institute of Urology include Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who work in-tandem with our urologists. These medical professionals, known as Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), are licensed healthcare professionals whose rigorous training includes post-graduate education and extensive clinical rotations.

APPs also hold national board certifications, giving them the authority to evaluate patients, diagnose acute and chronic conditions, order diagnostic tests, perform procedures, and prescribe medications.

Your urologist may recommend you make an appointment with an APP for routine care of:

  • Prostate and bladder issues
  • Sexual health issues in men
  • Kidney stones and other urinary issues
  • Pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic issues

Rest assured that the close collaboration between APPs and your urologist ensures you’ll receive the attention you need to resolve your urologic issues. Meet the APPs at Michigan Institute of Urology.

BPH Doesn’t Have to Control Your Life

If an enlarged prostate, also known as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) is making it harder to urinate, causing frequent trips to the bathroom, waking you at night, or leaving you with a weak urine stream, know that you have options.

Our urology care team offers multiple treatment options for BPH, including:

  • Medications
  • Minimally invasive (non-surgical) treatments: eight options are available. Your provider will explain each to help you determine if one is right for you.
  • Surgical removal of all or part of your prostate gland – reserved for men with very large prostates or severe urinary issues.

If you have symptoms of BPH, don’t let it control your life. Learn about your treatment options in our BPH Treatment & Education Guidebook.

New Procedure Shatters and Vacuums Kidney Stones

When you’re blindsided by kidney stone pain, you want relief fast!

CVAC is the most advanced treatment available today for kidney stones. This new vacuum device shatters, irrigates, and removes kidney stone fragments in a single procedure.

  • Continuously removes fragments as it shatters stone so that particles are not left behind.
  • Avoids a trip to the hospital. CVAC is performed at our Troy and Utica ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Allows a quick return to normal activity.

CVAC is a minimally invasive procedure that accesses the kidney through your urinary tract. No incisions, no hospitals. Learn more about how Michigan Institute of Urology is treating kidney stones.

Behind-the-Scenes Name Change

Although nothing is changing regarding how you know us, your care, or your providers, you may have noticed a change in our legal name. This is a behind-the-scenes, administrative update only.

Moving forward, billing statements and insurance paperwork (like your Explanation of Benefits) will now show our new legal name, Alliance Physician Services of Michigan, PC instead of Michigan Institute of Urology.
